Game #128 Patrick Corbin tries again for Career W 100

The Washington Nationals will go for a series win today, and starter Patrick Corbin is still in search of career win No. 100. He won his 99th game on July 19, and for him, this will be his sixth attempt, since then, for the elusive 100th milestone career win. After this game, the Nats will get on their American Airlines charter to fly for a weekend series in Atlanta. The team is back in Washington D.C. on Sunday night ahead of their series with the Yankees on Monday.

Based on last year’s win total of 71-games, the Nats need to go 15-20 or better to beat that total. To beat the 66-win total from FanGraphs, the Nats need to win 10 more games. There are just 35-games remaining in the season, and the rest of this season is really supposed to help to determine the players who could help impact the 2025 roster.

The Nats are slight favorites today, at -125 to win on the moneyline. That means if you bet $125 you would win $100. Bet $12.50 and you win $10.00.

Nats’ manager Dave Martinez got Jacob Barnes up yesterday but did not have to use him as starter Mitchell Parker pitched 7.0 complete innings in a blowout. Joe La Sorsa and Tanner Rainey closed out the final two innings giving everyone else the night off before this early afternoon series finale at Nationals Park.

This is what the Nats schedule looks like going forward:

  1. Thursday: Patrick Corbin vs. Rockies
  2. Friday: MacKenzie Gore vs. Braves
  3. Saturday: Jake Irvin vs. Braves
  4. Sunday: DJ Herz vs. Braves
  5. Monday: Mitchell Parker vs. Yankees
  6. Tuesday: Corbin vs. Yankees
  7. Wednesday: Gore vs. Yankees
  8. Thursday: Day-Off August 29
  9. Friday: Irvin vs. Cubs
  10. Saturday: Herz vs. Cubs
  11. Sunday: Parker vs. Cubs
  12. Monday: Day-Off September 2

Your top Washington Nationals on the FanGraphs’ WAR leaderboard has Luis Garcia Jr. atop of the WAR rankings at +3.1, Jacob Young and CJ Abrams at +2.2. In total, 28 Nats’ players are in positive WAR and another seven are at a neutral 0.0 WAR.

“We were having better at-bats today. The whole idea was to stay right there. Don’t try to force things. We’ll get some runs on the board. They did that, and it worked out well for us.”

— Nats’ manager Dave Martinez said after yesterday’s game
