Game #119 Nats go for the rare Walk-Off SWEEP!

While you would appreciate less drama in your Washington Nationals’ wins, the team has the chance to have a walk-off for an entire series if the Nats can win today via a walk-off to go with Friday and Saturday’s walk-off wins. A rare feat.

The heroes from the bullpen to throw zeroes in both games in come-from-behind wins that saw Alex Call and Jose Tena get consecutive walk-off hits has been dramatic to say the least. The LED lights that are new at Nats Park this season have added to the effects of these walk-offs as they go red and flicker.

Based on last year’s win total of 71-games, the Nats need to go 18-26 or better to beat that total. There are just 44-games remaining in the season, and the rest of this season is really supposed to help to determine the players who could help impact the 2025 roster. What an impact Tena made in his debut, and how’s about what Call has added to the outfield with James Wood and Jacob Young.

What will the hot outfield do for an add of Dylan Crews who has been en fuego in Triple-A, and what about the red hot Andres Chaparro? Of course there’s also Joey Gallo who is rehabbing in Triple-A — and could return to the Nats tomorrow.

The Nats are deep favorites today, at -150 to win on the moneyline. That means if you bet $150 you would win $100. Bet $15.00 and you win $10.00.

Nats’ manager Dave Martinez‘s bullpen had to cover 6.0 innings because Patrick Corbin was pulled with no outs in the 5th inning and a runner on 2nd base. Eduardo Salazar not only stranded Corbin’s runner in a 4-2 game, it was the last real threat of the game as the Nats had to pitch into extra innings in this one too — for the third straight game. Martinez avoided going to Kyle Finnegan, and went with Jose A. Ferrer and Tanner Rainey in medium lev spots, and Derek Law did the heavy lifting for the bullpen going 2.0 innings in the 9th and 10th inning with only one baserunner.

With a team day-off tomorrow, Martinez might use Finnegan in this one.

This is what the Nats schedule looks like going forward:

  1. Sunday: MacKenzie Gore vs. Angels
  2. Monday: Day-off (August 12)
  3. Tuesday: Jake Irvin vs. Baltimore
  4. Wednesday: DJ Herz vs. Baltimore
  5. Thursday: Mitchell Parker vs. Phillies
  6. Friday: Patrick Corbin vs. Phillies
  7. Saturday: Gore vs. Phillies
  8. Sunday: Irvin vs. Phillies

Your top Washington Nationals on the FanGraphs’ WAR leaderboard has Luis Garcia Jr. atop of the WAR rankings at +2.5, and Jacob Young at +2.1 and CJ Abrams at +2.0 . In total, 25 Nats’ players are in positive WAR and another six are at a neutral 0.0 WAR.

“Sometimes it only takes one more than the other guys.”
