Game #116 Nats look to even the series

The Washington Nationals are set to complete their 4-game series against the San Francisco Giants, and the Nats need a win today to even the series. Of course, the weather will be a factor, and the team moved up the game time four hours to try to get this in.

Based on last year’s win total of 71-games, the Nats need to go 20-27 or better to beat that total. There are just 47-games remaining in the season, and the rest of this season is really supposed to help to determine the players who could help impact the 2025 roster. Both Alex Call and Juan Yepez have been impressive in their 44 combined games this season.

The Nats are slight underdogs today, at +100 to win on the moneyline. That means if you bet $100 you would win $100. Bet $10.00 and you win $10.00.

Nats’ manager Dave Martinez‘s bullpen threw a 4.0 innings last night with Eduardo Salazar, Tanner Rainey, and Joan Adon combining for 3 1/3 perfect innings. Unfortunately, Jose A. Ferrer gave up 2-run in just 2/3 of an inning to widen San Francisco’s lead. Kyle Finnegan got another day-off, and has not been used in this series to this point.

This is what the Nats schedule looks like going forward:

  1. Thursday: DJ Herz vs. Giants
  2. Friday: Mitchell Parker vs. Angels
  3. Saturday: Patrick Corbin vs. Angels
  4. Sunday: MacKenzie Gore vs. Angels
  5. Monday: Day-off (August 12)
  6. Tuesday: Jake Irvin vs. Baltimore
  7. Wednesday: Herz vs. Baltimore
  8. Thursday: Parker vs. Phillies
  9. Friday: Corbin vs. Phillies
  10. Saturday: Gore vs. Phillies
  11. Sunday: Irvin vs. Phillies

Your top Washington Nationals on the FanGraphs’ WAR leaderboard has Luis Garcia Jr. atop of the WAR rankings at +2.3, and CJ Abrams and Jacob Young are both at +2.1. In total, 22 Nats’ players are in positive WAR and another eight are at a neutral 0.0 WAR.

“This is a tough time of year for everybody, and I know they’re grinding. These guys are grinding, and they’re figuring some stuff out.”
