Game #109 is a salvage game in Arizona

The Washington Nationals got past the trade deadline and went on to get blown-out in Arizona by a final score of 17-0. Yes, that looks like a football score. After the shocking loss in the first game of this series, the Nats will try to win this one to leave Arizona with a salvage win before the team flies back to Washington, D.C. ahead of a day-off on Thursday.

Nats’ manager Dave Martinez‘s bullpen ended up using just 3-relievers as Eduardo Salazar was for some reason pushed to the brink of exhaustion at 50-pitches in his third inning of work. His first two innings were good, and then he faded quickly in his third inning of work. Joan Adon threw just 16-pitches, and Tanner Rainey gave up a field goal to add to the two touchdowns by Arizona. Rainey’s meltdown inning of work came on three hits and two walks as he faced mostly bench players as the Diamondbacks subbed out players in the blowout. Earlier in the day, Martinez was talking about getting Rainey some “high leverage” innings. Rainey’s ERA stands at 6.60 now.

The Nationals are deep underdogs today, at +145 to win on the moneyline. That means if you bet $100 you would win $145. Bet $10.00 and you win $14.50.

This is what the Nats schedule looks like going forward:

  1. Wednesday: MacKenzie Gore vs. Arizona
  2. Thursday: Day-Off
  3. Friday: Jake Irvin vs. Brewers
  4. Saturday: DJ Herz vs. Brewers
  5. Sunday: Mitchell Parker vs. Brewers
