Game #105 Business trip vibes

The Washington Nationals needed a clutch hit with two outs last night in the 10th inning, and the birthday boy, Jacob Young, delivered with a bases-clearing 3-run triple to seal the victory for the Nats.

We are just 3-days to the trade deadline, and the front office, and closer Kyle Finnegan and outfielder Lane Thomas are getting the most mentions in trade rumors on social media. Everyone continues to be on hug-watch and scouring their social media for news breaking on trades.

Nats’ manager Dave Martinez had to use five relievers yesterday to cover the Nats for the 10th inning as well as 4.0 innings in regulation. Nobody was overworked, but Jacob Barnes has thrown 41-pitches in the past three days.

The Nationals are slight underdogs today, at +120 to win on the moneyline. That means if you bet $100 you would win $120. Bet $10.00 and you win $12.00.

This is what the Nats schedule looks like going forward:

  1. Saturday: Jake Irvin vs. St. Louis
  2. Sunday: DJ Herz vs. St. Louis
  3. Monday: Mitchell Parker vs. Arizona
  4. Tuesday: Patrick Corbin vs. Arizona (Trade Deadline)
  5. Wednesday: MacKenzie Gore vs. Arizona
  6. Thursday: Day-Off
  7. Friday: Irvin vs. Brewers
  8. Saturday: Herz vs. Brewers
  9. Sunday: Parker vs. Brewers

Your top Washington Nationals on the FanGraphs’ WAR leaderboard has CJ Abrams on the top at +2.1 for position players and the team’s All-Star. He is behind MacKenzie Gore at +2.2. Jake Irvin is at +1.9. Jacob Young and Luis Garcia Jr. are tied at +1.8 as the second best position players. In total, 22 Nats’ players are in positive WAR and another seven are at a neutral 0.0 WAR.

“I talked to Robert Garcia about pitching really later in games, in high-leverage situations. He’s done really well, and I also had a conversation with Jacob Barnes about that we’re going to have to use him in more high-leverage situations. They’ve all been throwing the ball really well.”
