Game #149 Trevor Williams on the mound

The Washington Nationals lost another head-scratcher yesterday. They scored all of their runs in the first inning, then could not scratch out any more runs for the next eight inning. Tonight it is Trevor Williams for the Nats and Corbin Burnes for the Brewers. This is the type of game that Vegas has as the biggest lock of the day in favor of the Brewers. Maybe Williams can spin a gem and be the reverse lock of the day.

By the numbers, Williams has given up four or more runs in 13-starts this season. Well, he has 15-starts of three runs or less. What seems like an inconsistent mess is more about his past eight starts in which in six games he gave the Nats almost no chance of winning. Some would say by FIP metrics, he has been luckier than good. In fact with his 4-seam fastball this season, it is getting hit at a .560 SLG but it is really worse than that as that is an average over the season and has been over .620 for the past two months. His curveball has been even worse as that has been clobbered at a .636 SLG for the full season. Hopefully the team has figured out something mechanically to get Williams to finish the season on a high note.

Tomorrow is Patrick Corbin against Brandon Woodruff and his 1.93 ERA, and then the Nats travel back to D.C. for a series against the White Sox beginning on Monday.

“We chased some … We didn’t stay on the ball … You got to get them out over the plate. We did it well in the first inning, then we couldn’t do it anymore .
