The Washington Nationals made their two required moves to bring their roster to 28 players for the annual September 1 roster expansion. There was no top prospect added at this time, but two players get a chance to show what they have. The two additions required three roster moves. Reliever Amos Willingham was added back to the roster, and the position player was Travis Blankenhorn. Since he was not on the 40-man roster, the Nats DFA’d RHP Rico Garcia.
The Nats have Jake Irvin who is coming off one of his best starts last week that moved him to almost a tie with MacKenzie Gore for the second best ERA on the staff. Irvin has to show that he deserves a starting spot on the 2024 Nats’ roster.
Unfortunately, the news was not good for Joan Adon last night. He was wild, and it cost him dearly against the Marlins. He gave up 5 earnies over 5.0 innings, and it could have been worse if he was facing an above average offense.
“[Joan Adon] just couldn’t repeat his mechanics. His arm was lagging a little bit with some pitches. That’s why I think he got a little wild. So we’ll get it back and get him squared away. His last time it was, as we all saw, he was really good. This time he fell behind a lot and just couldn’t get it all together. His rhythm was off a little bit. His tempo was a little off as well.”
