The Washington Nationals have a tall task tonight facing old friend, Max Scherzer, tonight in New York. The Nats will pitch lefty MacKenzie Gore, a night after the Nats got a gem from Josiah Gray who moved up to the 12th best ERA in all of baseball at 3.27. The Nats offense was back to run support issues behind Gray with only one run scored.
That led to a tough loss out of the bullpen last night, and the Nats will want to get back on their path to winning baseball. The Nats fell to 12-17 in 1-run games.
“We’ve got to start swinging the bats. We’ve got guys on third base with less than two outs in games like this, and those runs are important. We’ve got to have better at-bats [by executing] any way you can to get the ball [deep] in the outfield. We’ve got to do a better job of that.”
— manager Dave Martinez said
The Nats starting pitchers have a combined ERA of 4.58 for 19th best in MLB. The Nats are within 20 points of leapfrogging four teams for 16th best — which is the spot the Yankees hold.
