The Washington Nationals arrived in Seattle, Washington at a decent hour last night. They did not want to be sleepless in Seattle like they were the week before when the team arrived after 5 am at their homes in the Washington, D.C. area after a late night flight from Houston. It certainly took its toll on the team as they looked like they were sleepwalking at times against Miami in a sweep. The Nats touched down in Seattle at 8:49 PM local time last night after winning a series in San Diego. No easy task tonight for the Nats as they will have to face Seattle’s ace Luis Castillo.
The Nats optioned pitcher Paolo Espino to Triple-A Rochester, and called up reliever Amos Willingham (no relation to Josh Willingham). After a good start to his season for Double-A, Willingham, 24, was promoted a few weeks ago to Rochester Triple-A and has done well there. He is a right-hander and was a 17th round draft pick in 2019 out of Georgia Tech by the Nats.
Seattle is also the site for this year’s All-Star game, and today they announced that James Wood and Brady House would be reppin’ the Nats at the All-Star Future’s game on July 8. We still don’t know who will be representing the Nats at the MLB All-Star on July 11. It most likely will be a pick between MacKenzie Gore, Josiah Gray, Lane Thomas, and Jeimer Candelario,
The Nats will have Trevor Williams as their starter tonight with Jake Irvin going on Tuesday, and Patrick Corbin for the Wednesday late afternoon getaway game. The team will fly back east with a day-off on Thursday. On Friday, the team has a road series against Philadelphia that will take the team to the midpoint 81st game of the season and beyond.
“That was a good one.”
— manager Dave Martinez said about the win on Saturday
The Nats starting pitchers have a combined ERA of 4.54 for 20th best in MLB.
