Game #45 The Tigers are at Nats Park for the weekend!

The Washington Nationals are back home after getting swept in Miami. They will turn to their fifth starter, Jake Irvin, to be the stopper. What an opportunity for the Nats youngster to show he can be that guy. If he pitches great, it will make any decision to bring Chad Kuhl back off of the IL that much more complicated. But you would say that is a good problem to have. Irvin has to force the issue by pitching great.

With Joey Meneses back from his paternity list after the birth of his son Joseph yesterday, the team sent Jake Alu back to Triple-A Rochester. Alu had two hits in yesterday’s game and has to be feeling good about himself. We should see him again this season.

Tonight the Nats face the Detroit Tigers. Everyone recalls Max Scherzer‘s 20-K game against them, and they just were never a team the Nats would face often as an AL Central team. The Tigers will mitch the lefty Matthew Boyd which will have Nats’ manager Dave Martinez going with more righties in his lineup.

“Candy on once again. Candy’s swinging the bat really well for us.”

— manager Dave Martinez on Jeimer Candelario

The Nats starters ERAs are a combined 4.36, and they will get to see what Irvin can do in his fourth MLB start.

Here is how they rank:

No. 5 Starter: Jake Irvin 4.11 ERA
No. 4 Starter: Patrick Corbin 4.65
No. 3 Starter: Trevor Williams 4.26
No. 2 Starter: MacKenzie Gore 3.69
No. 1 Starter: Josiah Gray 2.73
