In Spring Training, Joey Meneses departed a week ago to meet up with Team Mexico in Arizona for the World Baseball Classic. To that point, it was a lackluster first big league camp for Meneses and the Washington Nationals. He was batting at ‘Mendoza’ with a .438 OPS. Four singles and no extra-base hits in just 20 ABs. Some began questioning the kid from Culiacán as if he was one and done. Nats fans have seen it before with others, and skepticism will always be there until you prove them wrong.👀 James Wood 👀 then to bench player 👀 Elijah Green 👀 https://t.co/7XwzbkIvfj

Last night, Meneses introduced himself to the World, literally, in several post-game interviews televised around the globe. Two home runs with an epic bat flip, and an upset victory for Mexico over the USA. Meneses is batting .500 in two games with a 1.600 OPS. Hello Joey. While the Nats will be playing for a while without Meneses, and also Jeimer Candelario who is playing for Team Dominican Republic, the Nats are also without Victor Robles for another day or two as he is battling back from a knee contusion. The 5-8-1 Washington Nationals have to play better baseball. Consistent baseball. Start driving in runs in RISP situations. Nats fans have seen those struggles before too. Maybe it is the quality of the player and nothing more, nothing less. Get better players and the results are generally better. That makes sense. It doesn’t help that they are missing one-third of their starters. While this isn’t a typical Spring Training, it is giving opportunities for players like consensus top prospect James Wood for the start today with many veteran players. Scheduled to play in this game is Elijah Green who was the teams first draft pick in 2022 in the first round. Here we are on March 13, and we go another game with no television as the home team. Just one MASN broadcast in the books and the color analyst, Kevin Frandsen, was not on the call. MASN continues to short-change their paying customers. You know, those who pay the cable bills and streaming services through DirecTV. Once again we have to rely on photos and random videos after the fact, and the road team providing the radio call.Joey Meneses had a two home run night and an A+ bat flip for Mexico in their win over the USA!
