With last night’s game postponed due to rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ian, the Washington Nationals and New York Mets will play an afternoon game followed by a second game for a doubleheader. With the Braves losing last night, the Mets still have a small glimmer of hope of winning the NL East which would require the Braves to get swept today and tomorrow by the Marlins and the Mets to sweep the Nats. This is the final series of the season for the Nats.
With their 104th loss in the books from Sunday, this team set a record for the most losses of any Nats team in their history. Fortunately, the Nats won’t break the Expos franchise record of 110 losses but they did surpass the 103-loss season of 2009. This week we will have a story on the silver lining of this 2022 team, kind of like we did with the 2009 team.
The Nats will stick with spot starter Cory Abbott for this one, and the Mets counter with Carlos Carrasco.
