We are in the final few hours of August before the rosters can expand by one pitcher and one position player tomorrow as the calendar turns to September 1. Just 32-games after tonight will be remaining in the season for final auditions for next season.
Part of the debate will be on whether Ted Williams Joey Meneses should start next year as well as Ildemaro Vargas, and then a further debate will be, do you tender contracts to Luke Voit who will be due over $6 million and Victor Robles over $2 million?
The Oakland A’s took last night’s game as Erick Fedde just didn’t have it for the Nats, and he lasted just 2 2/3 innings. The domino effect was an overused bullpen leading Cory Abbott to be placed in the bullpen in place of Cade Cavalli who was officially placed on the 15-day IL with shoulder inflammation. On regular rest, Paolo Espino will start tomorrow’s series finale instead of pitching Friday against the Mets.
Tonight will be Anibal Sanchez vs. James Kaprielian with a reworked lineup. Very few lineups has stayed the same this year.
As mentioned with rosters expanding tomorrow, we expect Tres Barrera to come back as a third catcher, and Mason Thompson as the 14th pitcher. In moves today, we broke the news that Israel Pineda was being promoted to Triple-A and Drew Millas to Double-A to balance the catcher situation.
