Game #113 Win a series? A story on Meneses bats

The Washington Nationals stopped their six game losing streak last night with a spirited come-from-behind win. Now the Nats have a chance with a win today to take this series against the Chicago Cubs today.

There were several Nats who stepped up last night from Keibert Ruiz to Joey Meneses to Paolo Espino to Lane Thomas to Carl Edwards Jr. It takes a team to win.

An interesting story about Meneses who cracked his favorite bat in Philadelphia, he has been borrowing bats from other players, until he receives his own bats etched with his name on the barrel. He has been swinging an assortment of bats with great success and has black bats, burgundy bats, brown bats, and even some with the natural wood. Teammate Cesar Hernandez and former Nat, Gerardo Parra, have added to his stash, plus he has several from opposing players.

If you aren’t on the 40-man roster, minor leaguers have to pay for their own bats, and they usually don’t get the superior wood so many players in the minors will lean on their MLB buddies for some bats. Juan Soto was one of those players known to give his bats to Nats’ minor leaguers. Meneses waited a long time for his moment, and he is making the most of it with borrowed lumber.
