What a win last night. Who would have thunk that Cory Abbott could beat Jacob deGrom. Without Juan Soto and Josh Bell, it was Joey Meneses and Luis Garcia stepping up along with Abbott and most of the Nats bullpen courtesy of a slick Houdini act by Kyle Finnegan who was not traded yesterday.
Today was a big day for the PR tour for the GMs all over baseball to talk about their “wins” at the trade deadline. ESPN’s Jeff Passan thought that Nats’ general manager Mike Rizzo did great as did Padres’ general manager A.J. Preller. That is known as a mutually beneficial deal. Soto and Josh Bell for a package of prospects and young and controllable players.
