Sans Patrick Corbin, this Washington Nationals rotation on this 8-day stretch are looking like they found a path that works. In two starts, Jackson Tetreault has one earnie on his record, and that was from an inherited runner who scored. Also in two starts, Josiah Gray has only allowed two earned runs. Erick Fedde, tonight’s starter, is trying to best both of them as he adds to his scoreless streak of 7 2/3 innings going into this game. In all and including Corbin, this rotation has a 1.52 ERA in this span.
In fact since Fedde retired the third out on June 15 to get Ronald Acuna Jr. in the fourth inning of that game, the Nats’ righty has not given up a run. It was looking like Erick Fedde was stepping up as a solid No. 2 starter for the Washington Nationals. If you follow Fangraphs WAR, Fedde is the team’s most valuable pitcher at a +0.9 WAR. By the way, Josh Bell is the top Nats player in WAR by a large margin.
For the Pirates, they are pitching a bullpen game tonight, and will start with RHP Miguel Yajure on the mound. He has six appearances from the bullpen with a total of 10 1/3 innings and a 11.32 ERA.
The Nats made a roster move bringing up the lefty reliever Sam Clay and optioning Francisco Perez back to Triple-A Rochester.
