The Washington Nationals got spanked last night, and it cost Joan Adon his starting job as he was demoted to Triple-A Rochester. This was probably long overdue for a pitcher who literally threw 69 percent fastballs last night and 31 percent curveballs and nothing else. The resulting mess was a 12-2 loss as the Marlins had batting practice in a ballpark that is supposed to favor pitchers. Well, it favors good pitchers.
Tonight on the mound for the Nats is RHP Josiah Gray. He has his work cut out for him as he goes up against one of Miami’s best in Sandy Alcantara.
Manager Dave Martinez made some changes in his lineup tonight, giving Ehire Adrianza a start at third base and Maikel Franco gets a rare day-off. Yadiel Hernandez is on the bench and Victor Robles is starting in centerfield.
Twelve years ago from today, Stephen Strasburg had one of the greatest debuts in MLB history with 14 Ks against the Pirates.
