If the Washington Nationals can win four of their next five games, they will reach a 19-31 record at Game No. 50 on Monday. The Nats start a 4-game series against the Rockies tonight, and on Monday they start a series against the Mets.
The Nats received some good news along with some discouraging news on injury updates. The good news first, Luis Garcia is back in the Rochester Red Wings lineup tonight at Triple-A after a slight hyperextension of his arm. The discouraging news pertains to Joe Ross‘ elbow which showed a higher severity of a sprain on this MRI, and he will seek a second opinion tomorrow. He had UCL surgery (Tommy John) in 2017 and made it back to then find he had a partial tear in that same UCL last year. Instead of opting for surgery, Ross rehabbed the ligament and general manager tendered him a $2.2 million contract for this season. Clearly, Ross will not return for months or possibly ever to the Nats as he is set to be a free agent after this season.
Tonight on the mound for the Nats is Patrick Corbin who is hoping to earn his first win of the season. As Stever20 points out, he hasn’t been getting much run support. Keibert Ruiz will catch Corbin in this game.
For the Rockies, RHP Germán Márquez is on the mound, and he is having a miserable season almost on the same plane as Corbin. Both hurlers have ERA’s that begin with the number 6.XX.
