The sample sizes on the season are getting larger as we enter the 30th game of the season for the Washington Nationals. Josh Bell, Yadiel Hernandez, and Juan Soto are your team leaders in OPS with Bell on top at a .999 entering play today followed by the hottest player in baseball, Hernandez at .957 and Soto at .884.
As we are almost 20 percent done with the season, the 5x multiple starts to bring some clarity to projecting full seasons for players. But everyone expects Soto to get back on his historic pace. Bell and Hernandez are on MVP paces, however Soto still leads the Nats in Fangraphs WAR at +1.2 because he has more plate appearances than Bell and Hernandez.
Today’s starter is Erick Fedde for the Nats, and the Angels will pitch Patrick Sandoval, a lefty, in this season finale. His ERA through four starts is 1.29.
The winner of today’s game claims the series win. After today’s game, the Nats will fly back to Washington, D.C. before a day off and a home series against the Mets to begin on Tuesday.
