The Washington Nationals started the 2022 season as expected. Now they face
Max Scherzer in a Mets jersey, and it is a reminder of the best and worst of the Nats team history and a reminder of the cyclical nature of sports. For Scherzer, he left at a good time, and one of the players he was traded for,
Josiah Gray, takes the mound to face the former Nats’ ace.
Truth be told, it feels bittersweet. If Gray and
Keibert Ruiz who were the centerpieces of that trade with the Dodgers turn into stars for the Nats, this trade will feel much sweeter as we revisit the trade that clearly ended the Nats 10-years of contention and immediately trusted the Nationals into a rebuild.
Losses like yesterday aren’t too indifferent from those from August and September of last year. Sure, it is a sample size of just nine innings, and not fair to think that’s how every game will go. So onward we go.
We will await manager
Dave Martinez‘s lineup and pregame notes. On TV for tonight, you will need at least a temporary pass for the Apple TV streaming service. This game will not be on MASN.
