The hits just keep coming as Yan Gomes was place on the 10-day IL just a few minutes ago. One of the top performers on the team, Gomes joins a long list of players on the IL including their other catcher, Alex Avila. The team just got back Kyle Finnegan and Daniel Hudson from the 10-day IL.
We broke the news earlier this afternoon that Jakson Reetz would be the player called up if Gomes was not able to go today — and that was the case.
Breaking: Source has told us that Jakson Reetz is on his way to San Francisco as the catcher if Yan Gomes isn’t able to play. Reetz would have to be added to the 40-man roster. #Nats

In today’s game, the Nats will give Jon Lester another opportunity to pitch in this game. It could be his last.
“We need him to go 5, 6 or 7 innings today,” said manager Dave Martinez. “It would be nice to go 6 or 7 innings. … He needs to attack the strike zone and get ahead.”
The issue is that Lester has not pitched once past the 6th inning. The Giants will pitch Anthony Desclafani in this game. The Nats faced him earlier this season and he was excellent for them.
