The Washington Nationals just finished up some emotional games with key wins over the Phillies and Mets and must keep the pressure on with this four game series in Miami. The Nats have won four in a row, and now the Nats pitchers will get to pitch in a pitcher’s park in Miami for the first time this season.
With Joe Ross on the mound tonight, the team needs to see him get back on track. He will face righty Cody Poteet of the Marlins in the newly named Loan Depot Park. The Nats have never faced Poteet before during the regular season.
The Nats bullpen situation is tentative at the moment after the heavy usage the past two games. Manager Dave Martinez needs someone else besides Brad Hand stepping up. Tanner Rainey‘s season continues to be mostly negative with an horrific 1.765 WHIP and 7.54 ERA. He got collared with a blown save yesterday, and the team better figure out that there is nothing special about a reliever who throws 97 mph fastballs over the middle of the plate.
Today’s lineup appears to be the “A” lineup especially considering the trends, and the two players who have to get it going are Juan Soto and Victor Robles. In yesterday’s game, Robles was gifted a single on a dropped popup which also gave him his 8th RBI of the season.
