This is the first of the two 7-inning games set for this Manfredian doubleheader. After last night’s walk-off, you have to wonder what the Washington Nationals can do for an encore. Of course, mother nature looks like she can fiddle with the weather. It sure isn’t Torrey Pines U.S. Open type of weather in San Diego, buy hey, Washington, D.C. is the capital of the democratic world and beyond centerfield you have the U.S. Capitol building.
Today’s starters for the first game are Joe Ross for the Nats, and lefty David Peterson for the Mets. The New Yorkers might be getting some of their players off of the IL.
The Nats have faced Peterson before, and normally you would expect Ryan Zimmerman against the lefty, but instead it will be Josh Bell starting for the Nats at first base.
Both teams will get to add a 27th player to the rosters per the rules for a doubleheader. The Nats are going to have Ryne Harper as the extra man instead of an outfielder as the Nats are playing with only four bench players.
