On short-rest, Jon Lester gave it everything he had over 5 2/3 innings and 87 hard fought pitches to hold the Braves to just one run. Lester exited with a 3-1 lead that was blown by a combination of Tanner Rainey and Daniel Hudson, but Hudson redeemed himself for a perfect 8th inning to keep it a 3-3 tie until Yan Gomes slugged a 426 foot bomb to put the Nats up for good for the win behind a Brad Hand save.
The Nats offense came up big early with a Juan Soto 2-run blast, and Trea Turner and Starlin Castro had the other two RBIs in this 5-3 win.
Unfortunately Kyle Schwarber exited the game early with a limp after a dive in the outfield. He was replaced by Andrew Stevenson in leftfield, and we will await any news on Schwarber in the postgame presser.
The Nats are now up 2 games to 1 in this series with the fourth game tomorrow afternoon.
