After dropping the first game of his doubleheader, the game escaped the rain on a day where they got a brief window to get in a 7-inning game. Now the tarp is on the field as they hope to get in this nightcap in the “Let’s play two…seven inning games” as Ernie Banks must be shaking his head at commissioner Rob Manfred who was the architect of this doubleheader configuration.
Last night’s starters, lefty Jon Lester for the Washington Nationals and lefty Brett Anderson, are the scheduled starters for this game.
Both teams made some changes to their lineups. The Nats of course will get Ryan Zimmerman into this one. The Nats are also down a player as Luis Garcia injured his hamstring in the first game. He was set to get an MRI. What manager Dave Martinez described as a bad cramp, sounds a little worse than that. Of course, Garcia was added this week to replace centerfielder Victor Robles who was put on the 10-day IL with a sprained ankle.
Again, this game is subject to the weather, and we will see if Mother Nature will cooperate to get this one going. The Nats are back where they were just eight days ago at five games under the .500 mark. They desperately need to start scoring runs by bunches, and put together a string of wins.
