If you want great matchups, this Washington Nationals and New York Mets game has Opening Day starters for the Mets and six-to-seven projected starters for the Nats. The dueling former Cy Youngs of Max Scherzer versus Jacob deGrom are the likely starters on April 1, and the Mets have already confirmed deGrom.
Opening night at Nationals Park, has the two best pitchers in the National League in the four year span of the winners of consecutive Cy Young Awards from 2016-2019 until Trevor Bauer unseeded that duo in 2020.
Nats manager Dave Martinez is going with a 1-5 with Victor Robles on top again that should start in some order, but interestingly Yan Gomes is catching Scherzer for the first time in Grapefruit League play this year as Alex Avila has caught him in the previous starts. Starlin Castro and Carter Kieboom get the day off.
Unfortunately, there is no television today. Thanks for nothing, MASN. You can listen to Charlie Slowes and Dave Jageler’s on the radio call of the game on 106.7 and the MLB app.
