Game #9 has Max Scherzer for his second start!

After Max Scherzer twisted his ankle before camp opened, his first start was pushed back to get him healthy. Today, the Washington Nationals’ ace makes his second start in the Grapefruit League schedule as they stretch him out in this Spring Training.  We are 3 weeks from Opening Day.

Yesterday,  we were supposed to have the 2021 Spring Training debut of Nationals’ radio which did not happen. The Cardinals are not scheduled for radio in this afternoon affair. We are counting on the Nats for radio coverage. This will be a wait and see on this. Up until now, we have been relying on the Astros, Cardinals, Mets and Marlins broadcasters for the sounds of the game. We are also at a point that MASN still has not released a Spring Training schedule for TV even though some have said it will happen — time is getting short with only 15 games remaining on the Grapefruit schedule. The Marlins added streaming video feeds from a fixed camera behind home plate in their ballpark because they are not broadcasting games on TV.

The Cardinals have their ace, Jack Flaherty (RHP) for another start against the Nationals. Will his manager, Mike Shildt, invoke the 20-pitch rule again to abruptly end an inning? The Cardinals’ manager did that the last time Flaherty faced the Nats. That drastically changes the potential stats. The 20-pitch option is only available through games on March 13.

We should see most of the starters to begin this game. The Nats have been posting the lineups about four hours before first pitch. Will we see Alex Avila catching Scherzer again? He is emerging as the favorite to be Max’s personal catcher for the 2021 season.
