The MLB.TV library is unlocked and free to everyone for the 2018-2019 season courtesy of MLB. This win #7 is in the 13th game in the season, and the Nats took a 6-6 record into this game with a chance to move above .500 with a Curly W!
Today as they say in our back-to-the-future look at baseball is a new day. This is a game that matched up Anibal Sanchez for the Nats against Chris Archer, who the Pirates acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays during the 2018 season.
The Nationals before this game placed Justin Miller on the 10-day IL and given his usage as one of the dependable arms in the Nats ‘pen during the first two months of the season, it was no surprise that he had issues, and as we know what never be the same again. They called this injury a lower back strain. The team called up RHP Austen Williams from the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies.
At this point in the season, the Nats were bobbing on the .500 line and still trying to figure out the formula for the bullpen. Losing Miller to the IL, put manager Dave Martinez in quite the bind. Watch how the bullpen reacts in this game or is it how Davey starts trying to stretch his starters further. What Davey learned early on is the “balancing act” between the starters and relievers — but also who you can trust. It is really great foreshadowing for later on and this is all non-fiction stuff. This all really happened.
