The Nats are back home in Nationals Park which they have not seen since the Sunday before the All-Star break. This will be the start of a three series homestand beginning with a four game set with the Colorado Rockies.
The Nationals come into this series with some injury concerns with Max Scherzer and Ryan Zimmerman while the Rockies are dealing with a fade from the playoff picture. They start the righthanded Peter Lambert tonight and the Nationals have Erick Fedde.
These teams faced off last when the Nationals were playing Jake Noll at 3rd base and Wilmer Difo at shortstop, and manager Dave Martinez was writing lineups that looked like something from a Spring Training split-squad game.
It will be good for Martinez to write his main starters into the lineup today, and see what his team can do against the Rockies now. Fedde has not performed his best against left handers so far this season with almost an 120 point difference in batting average as lefties have hit him at a .316 clip. Charlie Balckmon for instance is a career 5-5 against Fedde, and this is where he must improve to stay a part of this team. Opportunity is knocking Erick!
