We are getting closer to Opening Day, and Max Scherzer is pitching in this game then he will make one more start before Opening Day. The rotation order seems to be set along with the starting 8, but there are now serious questions about the bench after Michael Taylor‘s knee/hip strain plus Howie Kendrick has not returned to play in games.
So what will Mike Rizzo do to beef up the bench or will he add from within? Candidates are certainly Andrew Stevenson, Adrian Sanchez, Spencer Kieboom, and Wilmer Difo. The other choice is help from the outside, and Denard Span could be that player as he is an unsigned free agent. Today, Difo will be in centerfield. Tomorrow, who knows?
The plan for Max Scherzer is 6 innings of work and no more than 85 pitches. We will keep an eye on him as he went 5 innings and 75 pitches in his last start.
