Last night Max Scherzer had his chance to do something spectacular in his quest to win another Cy Young award and while he was good with accumulating strikeouts, Max gave up two home runs and 3 earned runs which won’t help his chances to overtake the front-runner Jacob deGrom who coincidentally will face the Nationals tonight in a matchup against Joe Ross.
On milestone watch, Scherzer won’t get his chance at 20-wins but needs just 10 more strikeouts to reach 300 strikeouts for the season, Harper is going for 100 runs and 100 RBIs, Soto is going for 25 home runs to set the teenage home run record and hit at least .300, Trea Turner wants to join the 20/40 club and he took care of the 40 steals on Tuesday and now just needs four more home runs to reach his 20th home run, Anthony Rendon wants to get over a .900 OPS, and Ryan Zimmerman wants to get to his career average .280 on the back of his baseball card.
For some other Nats players, they are trying to impress manager Dave Martinez and general manager Mike Rizzo that they are worthy of being on this team next year.
In this 4-game series, the Nats will not face the hot Zack Wheeler as he has exceeded his innings limit and done for the season as is Wilmer Flores who has arthritis in his knees. Nats will also not face Noah Syndergaard as he pitched yesterday.
