A source has told us that ownership has given general manager Mike Rizzo the go-ahead to explore trade targets as a “buyer” which seems to be counter to the “sell” rumors. ‘Tis be the season to be folly when you are a team in need of players. Overpaying is usually what it takes to pry away the great players — but recently, Mike Rizzo has paid dearly in the Melancon and Doolittle/Madson trades plus he emptied the pitching cupboard to acquire Adam Eaton who has barely stayed on the field in two seasons.
For now, the team’s focus for manager Dave Martinez is on winning today, tomorrow, and beyond with the player’s on his roster. For now, the player’s on his roster are the same as yesterday as Anthony Rendon has not returned from his paternity leave and Stephen Strasburg is on the mend. There is optimism on Strasburg who returned to the clubhouse today in Miami with some good news.
A medical lesson. Stephen Strasburg received a Interscalene nerve block injection which anesthetizes the roots of the brachial plexus in the neck between the anterior and middle scalene muscles.
Whatever that means 😂 but all that matters is Strasburg says it feels better now!

The Nationals send south Florida’s Gio Gonzalez to the mound and the Marlins have Trevor Richards who is a righty with extreme reverse splits.
Adams is 1-1 against righty starter Trevor Richards. But Richards has extreme reverse splits. Righties hit him at .321 this season and lefties at .202,
