The All-Star FanFest is like nothing you have ever seen. It is like a baseball lover’s paradise. Row after row of baseball activities, baseball history, memorabilia, baseball cards, All-Star apparel, and former baseball players. Those baseball cards above are just for the FanFest, and available through Topps wrapper redemptions.
On this Friday at the FanFest, they had Hall-of-Famers Juan Marichal and Rollie Fingers as those special players that make the All-Star FanFest so special plus they had former Nats Jamey Carroll and Justin Maxwell as well.
You bring the kids for the baseball activities which includes video games, baseball card games, trivia games, running games, and batting games. There were kids everywhere in the Diamond Dreams area.
One of my favorite displays were in the rows of art exhibits. There were three artists painting some very colorful All-Star inspired pieces. These 3-D pieces by well-known artist Charles Fazzino was very popular and very DC centric.
MLB Network had a stage and at certain times you can watch them broadcasting as well as the MLB Network Radio booth where Jim Bowden was hanging out.
One of our favorite sponsored displays was from Bank of America. They had 2 interactive areas for fans to make videos and win sunglasses at another station.
If you need FanFest tickets, let us know because Bank of America was kind enough to donate tickets to us. First come gets them!
A big thanks to Bank of America for inviting us out to All-Star FanFest and for providing these tickets for this giveaway. All thoughts and opinions are our own.
The fine people from Under Armour gave us a sneak peak to what Bryce Harper will be wearing in the All-Star game (white/blue) and the patriotic cleats for the Home Run Derby.
To help Bryce pay homage to Washington D.C., Under Armour designed these two different limited-edition versions of the UA Harper 3 cleat– both of which will be available for fans to purchase on UA.com. The All-Star Game white/blue cleats feature images of the D.C. skyline, including the U.S. Capitol Building, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. The cleat plate features a tranquil water pattern tying back to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, and the sockliner is flooded with the popular D.C. cherry blossoms that bloom from thousands of cherry trees across the District each spring.
The Home Run Derby colorway shows a prevalent Americana theme, with 50 stars placed across the upper to represent the 50 U.S. States, and a U.S. Constitution script replica on the upper and bottom plate.
The UA Harper 3 Home Run Derby and All-Star Game cleat replicas of the exact cleats that Bryce will be wearing as his game used cleats in the Home Run Derby on Monday and the All-Star game on Tuesday will be available for purchase on UA.com at 10am EST on the morning of each respective event – Monday the 16th for the HR Derby cleat and Tuesday the 17th for the All-Star Game cleat.
Under Armour also caught up with Bryce recently to ask for his thoughts on All-Star Game and Home Run Derby, his UA Harper 3 limited-edition cleats, what tunes will be on his pre-Derby playlist, and food / activity recommends for fans coming into D.C. for the week. We will upload below when we have it formatted. We can tell you he loves Silver Diner for breakfast and Filomena’s for dinner
Bryce is also working with Topps on their first curated baseball card sets that he is designing and the set will include players he has chosen for the set. The curated set will be exclusively available on-line and available like Topps Now. It is super exciting for the kid in all of us!
Yes, you can even try on Adam Eaton and Daniel Murphy‘s exact batting gloves made by Franklin as well as buy a pair at $40 each.
Every day there are new additions so you can come back daily. We can tell you that King’s Hawaiian will be bringing in Steve Garvey on Monday and other sponsors have players coming in.
If you are lucky enough to be invited to the parties as Max Scherzer says is the best part, the Under Armour and Adidas parties are nice industry events, but the Tim Tam party on Sunday Night at 11pm at Dirty Bar and the the Monday pool party by Oakley at the Capital Skyline are private invitation parties and the two most popular. With sponsored drinks by Deep Eddy Vodka and Budweiser’s beer brands — and lots of players — these parties are usually more fun than the games in my opinion. Cliff Floyd is hosting the Tim Tam party and we have seen the list that there are over 20 All-Stars with reserved tables — and yes — Nats players. The Oakley party is hosted by David Ortiz and Torii Hunter and is mid-day on Monday.
“It’s a party for like 72-hours,” Max Scherzer said.
