In game two of this doubleheader, the Nationals enter the game with new uncertainty as Howie Kendrick suffered an apparent injury to his lower leg. Kendrick will certainly head to the disabled list but who do they call up as Rafael Bautista blew-out his knee in a Triple-A game, and the 40-man roster is thin on position players with Brian Goodwin, Victor Robles, Daniel Murphy, Ryan Zimmerman, Matt Wieters, and Jhonatan Solano all on the DL. There are no other pure outfielders remaining on the 40-man roster, however Matt Reynolds has been playing in the outfield.
Besides Matt Reynolds, these are the remaining players on the 40-man roster who could come available: Kelvin Gutierrez, and Jose Marmolejos. Remember, Adrian Sanchez was already added to the roster today as the 26th man for the doubleheader. Is there a non-roster player you would add to the roster? That seems to be the million dollar question as you can bet that general manager Mike Rizzo is working the phones looking for players who have opted-out. Could we even see a Jayson Werth reunion at this point?
What we do know is that Max Scherzer and curveballing Rich Hill who is a former Syracuse Sky Chiefs farmhand will be pitching the 8:05 pm game. Hill has struggled this year to a 6.20 ERA, and the two Nats who hit him the best are Ryan Zimmerman and Daniel Murphy who of course are both on the DL.
The only time that Scherzer and Hill have faced-off was in game 5 of the 2016 NLDS. It is time to see the Nationals dominate these Dodgers.
