The Nationals blew so many opportunities to win on this day and break the losing streak which has now grown to five games. There were many positives in this game, and a few negatives like you would expect in a loss. The New York Mets made numerous mistakes and were staring at bases loaded with one out with Michael Taylor up and they struck him out when a productive out would have won the game. Instead the game kept going and in the end the Mets struck first in extra innings and it held up for them as the Nats lose 6-to-5 with Kintzler taking another loss.
While Nationals manager Dave Martinez had few alternatives in his bullpen as he stayed away from Brandon Kintzler as long as he could and had to use him after pitching Sammy Solis for two innings.
These losses are tough but the Nationals are another winning streak away from righting their ship. There were plenty of positives in this game like the bullpen was nails sans Kintzler. Bryce Harper hit his MLB best 6th home run of the season and carried the offense. It was a tough time for Adam Eaton to go 0-for-6 in a game where every Nats’ starting position player had at least one hit.
