Let us begin with some housekeeping of misconceptions on Derek Norris. He was put on revocable waivers, and not Designated for Assignment or given his outright release (although that could still happen as well as a trade). Norris is actually in the starting line-up today at 1:05 against the Tigers at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches and will be the designated hitter as Matt Wieters will catch Stephen Strasburg today.
On the other side is Justin Verlander who is making the start today for the Detroit Tigers, and that is always interesting as not only is he a great pitcher, but there is usually gawking time as his fiancĂ© the last few seasons has made the trip East and promoted animal rights along with Max Scherzer‘s wife. Kate Upton and Verlander appeared over the weekend in People magazine on animal adoption and animal rights.
This game unfortunately is not televised, but we do have Charlie Slowes and Dave Jageler with the radio call and that will have to suffice.
In other news, the Nationals made a slew of cuts today including yesterday’s walk-off hero Andrew Stevenson along with Drew Ward who hit another home run yesterday and catcher Raudy Read. Those players made cases for themselves and Stevenson and Read were named before the game by Dusty Baker as two of the stand-outs with Rafael Bautista and Erick Fedde.
Here's how we're lining up against the Tigers:
Turner SS
Werth LF
Harper RF
Rendon 3B
Zim 1B
Eaton CF
Drew 2B
Wieters C
Norris DHStras P
