The news everyone was waiting for was the Lucas Giolito call-up news which we broke yesterday and was confirmed this afternoon. Giolito will start tomorrow in place of Stephen Strasburg who was officially placed on the DL today and back-dated with an interim move where Rafael Martin will be an extra bullpen arm tonight. Giolito will require a 40 man roster move which will happen when Taylor Jordan is removed from the 40 man roster via a 60 Day DL move, and Giolito will most likely take Martin’s roster spot making Martin a 1 day move.
The other big news is that Trea Turner will debut tonight in the outfield for the Syracuse Chiefs in AAA and will play centerfield which TalkNats broke that news this morning and we tweeted out after 1pm today on the TalkNats Twitter. Mike Rizzo said that Trea Turner had been working in Syracuse with Gary Thurman for 3 days and got the stamp of approval for game action tonight! Rizzo also reiterated that Turner’s bat is MLB ready but with a middle infield that was set, the team needed him to learn the outfield for extra versatility. Rizzo still sees Turner as an everyday shortstop. Nothing wrong with creating another ‘Zobrist’ type as you never know.
