These head-to-head matchups between NL East teams are big, and when you are playing the team that many had as the favorite to win the NL East the game becomes a little more important because you have an opportunity to swing the standings by 1 full game each time so these are not like playing a NL Central opponent.
Last night, the game was out of reach so quickly that Dusty Baker was not able to make any strategic moves. Dusty unfortunately had to work his bullpen for 4 innings last night, and there aren’t many strategic plans to make up a 6 run deficit except for chipping away which the Nats never did as the Mets scored 7 unanswered runs and the only tally for the Nats was the 1st inning run which didn’t hold up in the 7-1 loss.
Today, as they say, is a new day. Stephen Strasburg needs to pitch a gem as we have no idea what type of Matt Harvey the Nats will see tonight. Also, the Nats bats need to work Harvey and frustrate him in order to get to him.
